Updates on Google Cloud and SAP Partnership 2020

Things change fast for every business. Many people fundamentally change how they operate and serve their customers. Even companies used to add and transform the global epidemic are managing unprecedented changes.

All of this is fine for businesses running SAP applications. Some change the market conditions, and others run like Black Friday every day. For SAP companies running on-premises or parallel location data centers, cloud compulsion is at the forefront.

As SAP’s SAPPHIRE NOW Digital Events launches this week, Snehanshu Shah has shared the latest information on a blog post about how SAP Cloud can help SAP customers transform their businesses in the short and long term.

SAP customers benefit from the combined power of Google Cloud and SAP

Google Cloud and SAP help clients adopt a cloud strategy and build robust, flexible, and innovative IT systems that will enable them in the future.

SAP recently announced the first SAP data center to be powered by Google’s cloud infrastructure. Now operating in Frankfurt, Germany, this data center will allow SAP’s customers to enjoy all the benefits of a Google Cloud robust and reliable cloud platform on Google’s cloud infrastructure, which is exclusive to SAP applications. While providing a safe environment based on SAP’s strict specifications on data protection requirements and compliance standards, SAP can operate the workload for customers without any external influences and management capabilities and services exclusively for those customers.

There are many more ways to innovate on behalf of our joint customers outside the data center. AutoML Vision is an intelligent, AI-powered solution that allows manufacturers to automate the visual quality control process. Instead of relying on manual inspection — sometimes under challenging circumstances — customers such as AES and Kaiser Compressorone develop AutoML Vision, embedded in the production and business workflow around SAP, to perform quality control efficiently and in any production. Integrating AI-powered visual analytics for manufacturing customers who have embarked on the Industry 4.0 journey is an integral part of empowering them to achieve digital transformation.

On-board to Cloud for Business Agility and Insights

Current market conditions create an even greater need for SAP customers to take advantage of cloud agility and innovation. Tory Burch was able to complete the SAP S / 4HANA in 16 weeks and use it in six weeks on Google Cloud. Carrefour Spain stopped production of SAP HANA in 15 weeks. They are not alone; SAP customers report that it reduces employees’ time to deploy/migrate SAP applications to the Google cloud. Our automated templates and capabilities, such as migrating to Compute Engine, provide significant support for customers in rapid deployment.

To help SAP customers simplify their cloud journeys, Google Cloud offers the first cloud initiative, the Cloud Acceleration Program (CAP), empowering customers with solutions, guidance, and offers from our cloud partner. Clients gain access to expert skills for migration, implementation optimization, and more profound skills in the areas of analytics and machine learning. Google Cloud offers CAP participants transparent financial incentives for customers to avoid infrastructure costs for SAP Cloud migrations and to ensure that no duplicate costs are incurred during migration.

New Google cloud and partner capabilities for SAP customers

One of the critical areas they said they continue to invest in is certifications to enable more workloads such as OLTP and OLAP. This allows our customers to use our VMs for more varied workloads and gives customers greater efficiency and better processing without having to upgrade, move, or pay more. These performance bumps are part of customers’ current subscriptions.

Recently updated SAP HANA certifications include the N2 Family VM instances of the Google Cloud Compute Engine based on the Intel Gasket Lake CPU platform. These new N2 VMs offer two considerable benefits to their customers:

  • Performance Improvements for SAP HANA Workloads. In SAP certification tests, they saw an 18% increase in performance for OLAP displays.
  • Alignment to the 64GB memory unit of SAP HANA Enterprise Edition license. This enables customers to connect their Google Cloud VMs with their SAP HANA licenses to the exact size they do not need VM capability.

Also, they recently announced the OLAP measurement certificate for our M2 Family Compute Engine VM instances for SAP HANA with 6TB of memory for large SAP HANA deployments. This gives customers more options to run OLAP scenarios such as SAP HANA Data Warehouse and SAP BW / HANA.

Additional Certificates to Specify SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) Database 16.0. This latest version of ASE is now certified for clients that build SAP NetWeaver based application deployment on Google Cloud and applications on SAP ASE as a general-purpose database.

Customers can quickly use Google Cloud Connector for SAP Landscape Management (LAMA), so they can automate and centralize the management, operations, and lifecycle of their SAP landscape. The adapter interfaces with the Compute Engine and Cloud Storage functions to manage their deployments using the SAP Lama in Google Cloud.

Additionally, premium support is now available for their clients and mission-critical needs, including a pilot program with support from SAP customers. The program builds on Google Cloud Premium support on top of SAP’s stellar support, and it will come out in more detail in the coming months.

Keeping the lights on and explaining the path forward for customers

Cardinal Health in US., as one of the largest health care companies, is free from market-related pressures. After shifting its SAP environment to its cloud business in late 2019 to Google Cloud – which includes more than 400 servers, 30 applications, and 150 integrations – Cardinal Health has improved the level of demand and full transparency in its systems for higher availability and disaster recovery.

Adapting to demand sharpness and creating supply chain transparency goes beyond health.

Home Depot manages data from its SAP systems and other sources and empowers its partners with Google Cloud, stores more than 50,000 items in more than 2,000 locations, monitors online applications, or provides relevant call centre information. THD’s legacy data warehouse has 450 terabytes of data, and the Pixweri enterprise data warehouse they now use has 15 petabytes. The best decision is to use new datasets such as website clickstream data and analyze additional year data.
