Microsoft announced the acquisition of ADRM software, which uses large-scale industry data models as “information maps” for companies. Technology agents combine these models with storage and create data lakes to calculate from Azure, where the data of many business lines are grouped. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
An enterprise data model enables companies to capture and define business ideas more fully, refine and integrate processes, and create the functionality within their ecosystem. According to Gartner, “Data models are the foundation of a business. They are subject to a wide range of initiatives and permanent projects, such as data quality, data inheritance, and data governance. But today, companies are implementing the data model on an incomplete basis, resulting in a change that is not possible to support the different types of data estate digital.

That’s where ADRM comes in. It generates industry-specific enterprise, data warehousing, business area, and solution data models covering 10 industry groups and 65 lines of business. The company builds an enterprise data model for each company, consisting of a subset of firms from the business area models for that industry. 21 to 30 Comprehensive Business Area Models A section provides a detailed and expanded scope for each area, providing a view of the data for that business or a specific subject area.
ADRM says its data models help customers in 18 companies that collect global planning, architecture, design, governance, reporting, business intelligence, and analytics. By filling those models, the company provides industry best practices content and industry-specific naming and definitions.
